Polished Concrete Floors in Winston-Salem, NC | Interior Slabs & Showrooms

Polished concrete turns a plain interior slab into a finished floor by mechanically grinding it through finer and finer grits until it takes a sheen, then densifying and sealing it. The appeal is that it is the floor and the finish at once: no tile to crack, no coating to peel, and a surface that shrugs off traffic in a garage, a shop, a showroom or a modern living space. Price follows the square footage, the condition of the existing slab, and how high a polish you want.

The starting slab matters more than anything. A sound, flat slab polishes beautifully; a cracked, patched or badly cured one needs repair and prep first, and that prep is a real part of the cost. The level of shine is a choice too, from a low satin sheen to a high mirror gloss, and each step up is more passes with finer grit.

What changesEffect on your price

Stain or dyeColouring the floor before the final polish adds a step and a material cost.

How a polished concrete floor Job Goes, Step by Step

Assess and prep the slab

We check the slab for flatness, cracks and old coatings. Anything that has to come off comes off, and cracks and joints are repaired, because the grinder reveals every flaw rather than hiding it.

Coarse grind

The floor is ground with coarse diamond tooling to open the surface, remove coatings and flatten high spots. This stage sets how much aggregate shows in the finished look.

Densify

A chemical densifier is applied that reacts with the concrete to harden the surface, so it holds a polish and resists wear instead of dusting.

Progressive polish

The floor is worked through finer and finer grits until it reaches the chosen sheen. If a dye or stain is part of the look, it goes in during this stage.

Seal and hand over

A final guard sealer is applied, and the floor is ready for use as a finished surface that cleans with a mop and needs no wax or recoat cycle.

When to Call

  • A showroom or living space where you want the slab as the floor

Common Questions

Can any concrete slab be polished?
Most can, but the result depends on the slab. A sound, reasonably flat slab polishes well. A cracked, heavily patched or crumbling slab needs repair and prep first, and if it is too far gone, an overlay or a coating may be a better route. We tell you which after looking at it.
Is polished concrete slippery?
A polished floor is no more slippery than most hard floors when dry, and the sealer can include a grip additive for wet areas. The bigger factor is keeping it clean, since any hard floor is slick with water or dust on it.
How is it maintained?
Simply. Dust mop and damp mop, no wax, no stripping, no recoating cycle. That low maintenance is a large part of why shops and showrooms choose it over tile or a coated floor.
